Alumni Board of Directors immediate past president and Alpha Phi alumna Caryn (Long) Earl ’98 was named a 2020 Central PA Food Bank Hunger Hero. Earl currently serves as the director of the Bureau of Food Assistance for the PA Department of Agriculture.
September is Hunger Action Month, “a time when people all over America stand against hunger. Sharing, volunteering, pledging to advocate, fundraising, and donating are just a few ideas for taking action this month”, according to Feeding America. The Central PA Food Bank is raising awareness for Hunger Action Month by naming Hunger Heros who make a significant impact on fighting hunger in their communities. Earl played a vital role in coordinating state and federal resources for food banks during the pandemic.
“The pandemic has pulled the rug out from under too many of our neighbors, stripping them of both their jobs and their sense of security”, Earl empathized. “As a public servant, it is both my honor and responsibility to work with our partners in the charitable food network to help connect as many Pennsylvanians with food as possible.”
