If you haven’t made it to an Alumni Lunch and Learn yet, you should, and there are two great speakers slated for April. These events are fun, informal and a great way to connect with the workforce.
On March 16, Barrieann George ;88 – ‘89M, director of development and communication at Safe Harbor, Inc., visited the university virtually to talk about her experience as part of a non-profit organization. Safe Harbor provides, and creates affordable, housing across the country to the homeless and nearly homeless.
The conversation was laid back and easy to follow and Barrieann George was indescribably cool. She talked about music, her grunge phase in college, and the dance parties they had on campus, that should probably make a comeback.
“Volunteering wasn’t a thing when I was in college,” she said, but George believes that having the opportunity to volunteer now is an important one that every student should try to do once, as it exposes students to other people and their conditions, instead of allowing us to live in a bubble of security.
George’s determination and work philosophy were something everyone can adopt.
“If I start something,” she says, “not only am I going to finish it, I’m going to do it darn well.”
On April 6 at noon, the campus community will hear from Moriah Hathaway ’19, executive director to the PA Commission for women. Hathaway will share her leadership experience as well as some of her favorite and most impactful Ship experiences.
On April 20 at noon Marvin Worthy ’86 – ‘89M, founder and CEO of Worthy Consulting and Training, LLC will share his professional experience, lessons learned and his commitment to service with the Ship community.
