For the first time in over year, the Shippensburg University’s Music Department is taking the Luhrs Center stage in a six concert series in April and May. After last year’s series was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students and faculty were excited to share their music together once again.
The series started off on April 11 with the SU Woodwind Ensembles, led by Chris Ritter and Suzanne Thierry. That continued into the next night with the Pop Rock/Pep Band, directed by Aaron Trumbore, and the Jazz Ensemble, directed by Trever Famulare.
SU’s Orchestra and String Ensemble performed on April 18, with the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers performing on April 19. Both Dr. Mark Hartman, orchestra director, and Dr. Elizabeth Shoenfelt, choir director, mentioned these were their first concerts since the fall 2019 semester.
Remaining concerts this semester take place Sunday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. The first features the Wind Ensemble/Concert Band, directed by Trever Famulare and Aaron Trumbore, respectively. Closing out the series is the Percussion Ensemble, again led by Aaron Trumbore in their first ever appearance on the Luhrs Center stage.
You can view concert recordings here and check out the remaining concerts on a livestream through Shippensburg University Marching Band’s Facebook page. Anyone wishing to attend the remaining concerts must show tickets at the door due to limited capacity.
