Junior management information systems major Abdulomar Tucker and senior psychology major Hayley Anderson were named Homecoming Royalty during the annual Shippensburg University Homecoming celebration, but the day wasn’t just about a crown and sash. It was an opportunity to give back to the community. Each year, students vote to select a community project or organization to support and task the Homecoming Court with raising funds to donate.
Through donations, fundraisers and special events the 2021 Court raised $14,100 for the Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition. The Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition is a collaborative effort to provide quality social services and youth programs that are accessible and safe and that recognize the dignity and worth of each person. Beyond fundraising, Ship students support the work of SCRC throughout the year volunteering in various programs including the Summer Learning Program and Hound Packs, both food insecurity initiatives.
