Shippensburg University sophomore Skylar Walder is the newest member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors. Appointed by Governor Tom Wolf, the 20-member board establishes broad educational, fiscal and personnel policies and oversees the efficient management of the State System.
Walder is a history, secondary education major and a student-athlete with the Women’s Tennis team. An active member of the campus community, she joined the Student Government Association in 2020 and serves as the vice president for external affairs. She is also a peer anchor with Ship’s First-Year Experience program, a student ambassador and orientation leader and is a student-leader with the university’s annual Diversity Week program.
Walder is a student worker in the Ceddia Union Building where she enjoys interacting and supporting students. She is excited for this new opportunity to represent and support her fellow Ship and State System students.
“In this role, I want to be a voice for the students, build connections, and relationships where I can give a variety of perspectives to ensure representation across the board. I want to be the person that I needed when I was younger and leave a legacy in what I am involved in to help others and be an advocate,” said Walder.
Walder’s term on the board will end when she graduates.
