More than 240 people celebrated at the Annual Staff Awards Luncheon honoring recently retired staff and staff who have reached milestone in their years of service. A sumptuous buffet was served under blue skies in the shadow of Horton Hall on the grassy area near the fountain affectionally know as the Ship Yard.
Hosted by Laurie Porter, director of human resources, one of the many highlights of the program was the employee recognition award. Kurt Dunkel, a tireless advocate for mental health and suicide prevention, earned the award based upon his direct impact on the well-being of our students. This is an important role, as the Counseling Center, Ship Cares, and even our faculty and staff have all seen increases in the number of students who are struggling.
Door prize donors included the SU Foundation, Aramark Dining Services, Ship Rec, Luhr’s Performing Arts Center, and the Raider Athletics Department, with 51 guests leaving the celebration with gift cards, Ship swag, and other great prizes.
