Shippensburg University women’s basketball assistant coach Matt Allen has been selected to participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)’s Next Generation Institute.

Allen is one of 32 coaches spanning NCAA Divisions I, II and III who were selected to participate.

The WBCA describes the Next Generation Institute as “a high-level education program for experienced assistant coaches who aspire to become head coaches at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels.”

Allen is in his second season as an SU assistant coach. Last season, he was an integral member of the coaching staff that guided the Raiders to their most wins (25) and first NCAA Tournament victory in 22 years. Overall, Allen has more than 24 years of coaching experience spanning all three NCAA divisions of college basketball.

At Shippensburg, Allen works in the Learning Center with the Continuing Academic Progress and Success program. Allen supports student success, retention and progression to graduation through personalized support, and also serves as a student advocate who refers and connects students with relevant campus resources.

A native of Concord, North Carolina, Allen graduated from Wofford in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy and Philosophy. He earned his master’s degree at Shippensburg in Organizational Development and Leadership with a concentration in higher education and policy in May 2023.
