Shippensburg University is pleased to announce that free period products will be available in women’s and all gender-neutral restrooms across campus beginning the fall 2024 semester. This initiative is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the Raider community.
The need for these products can be unexpected and cause individuals to miss class, meetings, or other activities. By providing these products Ship will eliminate this barrier for members of the community.
Moreover, period poverty—the lack of access to menstrual products due to financial constraints—is a significant issue that affects many individuals, including members of the campus community. By providing these essential products, Ship aims to reduce the challenges that period poverty can create, ensuring everyone has the resources they need to fully participate in academic and campus life.
“Everyone within our community deserves an equal path to success, and with this new program, we remove a barrier that impacts many individuals. We are committed to seeking effective ways to support students and the free period product program is a great example of this work,” said Lorie Sheetz, vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students.
Students in need of additional period products can also visit Big Red’s Cupboard, which provides free food and personal hygiene items for students in need.
