On Saturday, October 18, 2024, Shippensburg University announced the homecoming royalty winners during halftime at the Ship vs Kutztown football game, located at Seth Grove Stadium. All proceeds that were raised directly support the SCRC’s Hound’s Pack program.
This year, Tymere Harris and Annie Linker took home Homecoming Royalty!
Tymere Harris
Harris is a mechanical engineering major, a brother of Kappa Alpha Psi, a Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) board member, director of public relations for the African American Organization, VP of the Muslim Student Union and runs his own summer camp.
Throughout Harris’s journey at Ship, he has grown as a person and felt inspired to run for homecoming royalty as a way to inspire others.
“Hearing my name called was a wide range of emotions—excitement, pride, and joy,” he reflected. “But as much as I loved that moment, it’s about how I can help somebody else get in this position. It’s really about pushing forward.”
Harris shouted out his fraternity brothers, who have helped him become the leader that he is today. Also, through his role on the MSA board, Harris has helped contribute to several campus events, including the Homecoming Casino Night and the step show. As the director of public relations for the African American Organization and as VP of the Muslim Student Union, Harris is dedicated to inclusivity.
“I want students, especially students of color, to know there are opportunities here.” said Harris.
Outside of Ship, Harris and his friend run a summer camp in his hometown of South Philadelphia, called The Next Up Youth Program. This summer program has become a way for Harris to give back to his community and help support younger generations in reaching their greatest potential.
Moving forward, Harris plans to graduate after the spring, and is preparing for a mechanical engineering internship in Houstin next summer.
Annie Linker
Linker is a sociology major with a double minor in psychology and international development in education. On campus, she is heavily involved as a student ambassador, has an internship with the office of admissions and conducts research with the Connors Institute.
Winning homecoming royalty was a memorable experience for Linker. “All of the court members were such great people, and all had different strengths, so I knew anyone would have been deserving,” she said. “When I heard my name, I was really excited because it showed how much of an impact I’ve been able to make on this campus.”
As an ambassador, Linker works with potential and incoming students. Her role includes leading tours and summer orientation activities, in which she helps new students connect and feel comfortable. Additionally, she serves as a mentor to student ambassadors in training.
Her internship with the Office of Admissions includes planning college fairs, open hours and alumni tours. “I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work,” noting the hands-on experience she’s gained from event planning.
Beyond Linker’s work on campus, she also assists with research at the Connors Institute, focusing on social inequalities. Recently, she co-authored an article addressing the gender pay gap and impact of gender on academia at Shippensburg.
Linker encourages any and all students to get involved at Ship in any way that they can. “A lot of my growth since coming to Ship three years ago came from putting myself out there.”
After graduating, she plans to continue her studies at Shippensburg, pursuing a Master’s in Organizational Development and Leadership.
Congratulations to Harris and Linker, and to all those on homecoming court — Katie Bridges, Ana Ruposo, Brooklyn Rupert, Abigail Reasoner, Drew Landis, Connor Baca and Nicholas Albert.
