Dr. Dhiman Chattopadhyay, associate CJM professor and director of ethnic studies, signed a contract with Routledge for his third academic book and first textbook, Journalism for Social Change, co-authored with Dr. Deb Aikat of UNC Chapel Hill. The book explores how journalism can encourage social reform.
Professor Stephanie Witmer, assistant professor and internship coordinator, was inducted into the Women’s Media Group, a prestigious New York-based organization of women leaders across all media fields.
Professor James Lohrey, assistant professor and SUTV adviser, represented Shippensburg University at the Broadcast Education Association’s national conference in April and continues to serve as the vice chair for the association’s production aesthetics and criticism division.
Dr. Carrie Sipes, associate professor, department chair and PRSSA advisor, co-authored a research paper on Gen-Z and social change, which was accepted for presentation at the International Communication Association’s 75th conference in June.
Dr. Michael Drager, associate professor and The Slate advisor, co-authored the textbook Writing & Reporting for the Media earned a 2025 McGuffey Longevity Award from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association.
The Slate student newspaper won two first-place awards and three honorable mentions from the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association. WSYC held its annual 24-hour “Up All Night” broadcast, and SUTV celebrated International Women’s Day with an all-women’s broadcast.
PRSSA hosted its annual professional networking night, connecting students with alumni and media professionals during CJM Day.
