SU Small Business and Development Center expands service to Dauphin County

The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center recently announced that the Shippensburg University Small Business and Development Center will expand its services to include Dauphin County beginning in 2026. The SU SBDC currently serves Cumberland, Franklin, Adams, and York counties.

The SU SBDC is part of a statewide network of 15 centers which service all 67 counties in Pennsylvania. The center provides no-cost confidential consulting and low-cost training to small business owners and potential entrepreneurs.

“We are honored to expand our services to support the small businesses and entrepreneurial community of Dauphin County. Backed by the strategic vision and initiatives of Shippensburg University, the Shippensburg SBDC is committed to building meaningful relationships with local communities and members of the county to ensure every business has access to the guidance and resources they need to succeed,” said Robin Burtner, director of the SU SBDC.

In 2024, the SU SBDC served 627 clients, supported 64 new businesses and reported $5.9 million in capital formation gained. Funding and resources for the SU SBDC are provided by the US Small Business Administration, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and Shippensburg University.

“Our passion is helping businesses start, grow, and prosper—and with the continued growth of the Capital Region, we’re deepening our presence to ensure Dauphin County entrepreneurs have the support they need at every stage. We look forward to becoming a trusted partner and an integral part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Dauphin County,” added Burtner.

The SU SBDC is currently located in the John L. Grove College of Business building at Shippensburg University. With construction under way in Kriner Hall, SU SBDC will soon join the Charles H. Diller Jr. Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation and the Mr. and Mrs. Milton K. Morgan III Makerspace in a newly renovated space, creating an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship. For more information on the SU SBDC visit: pasbdc.org/shippensburg/
