With over 70,000 alumni living across the country and internationally, one can imagine the successes achieved and the impacts being made by graduates of Shippensburg University every day in their professional fields, in their lives and in their communities. The Shippensburg University Alumni Awards are presented annually to alumni in the categories of Distinguished Alumni, Outstanding Young Alumni, Lifetime Achievement, Cultural Impact and Exceptional Service.
We will recognize ten individuals at Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 24 at the annual Alumni Awards of Distinction. The reception will be held at 5:00 PM, followed by dinner at 5:45 PM, both in the Tuscarora Room located in Reisner Dining Hall.

Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumni Award
Edward E. Brown ’82
Edward is a United States Air Force veteran and a 1982 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. A standout defensive leader on the Raider Football team, he earned All-American honors and was inducted into the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
Brown’s life has been marked by success across multiple arenas-academics, athletics, military service and business. He holds two master’s degrees from his time in the Air Force: an MBA from North Dakota State University (1986) and an MA in Public Administration from Troy State University (1988). He also earned certifications from the National Association of Personnel Services (CTS, 1999) and the Pennsylvania Community Providers Association’s Government Relations Institute (2003).
As co-owner of Unlimited Staffing Solutions, Inc., since 2001, Brown has built a respected professional staffing company. His earlier career included leadership roles at United Staffing Services, Elwyn Inc., Ken Crest Services, and as a founding member of Light House Homes, Inc., which provided group homes for court-adjudicated youth in California.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brown remains deeply committed to community service. He coaches youth sports, participates in local government, and is actively involved with the local NAACP. He also serves on Pennsylvania State Advisory Boards, contributing to the development of home health care regulations and policies.
Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumni Award
Jerome M. Dean ’82
Dean is a 1982 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He later earned his MBA from Temple University in 2000. Inspired to become a federal agent after attending a campus job fair as a junior, Dean built a career grounded in faith, family, fortitude, and service.
He began his professional journey in various roles, including as a case worker and an auditor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1987, Dean started as an internal auditor with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Office of Internal Audit. He spent six years in this position before spending most of his career as a senior special agent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Inspector General. After serving twenty-one years in the Office of Inspector General, Dean retired and started a second career, where he then retired for a second time and concluded his public service as a special investigator in the Governor’s Office of General Counsel for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Outside of his personal life, Dean dedicates himself to his faith and to service. He is a Deacon at Saint Matthews Baptist Church, Williamstown, New Jersey, a charter member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at Shippensburg University and he is a member of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter. Dean served on the SU Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving as president in 2008-2009 and serves on the SU College of Business Advisory Board as a chairperson.
Lastly, Dean is a Certified Fraud Examiner, a Certified Competent Communicator, a Master Judge for the Antique Automobile Club of America, a charter member of the Smithsonian African American Museum and an adjunct professor in the John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University.
Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumni Award
Lee Adams Kuhn ’87
A 1987 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism and media (CJM), Kuhn was honored as Shippensburg University’s CJM Alumni of the Year in 2022 and serves on the CJM Advisory Council-a role she’s held since 2023.
Kuhn began her professional career as program director and air personality at WHYL Radio in Carlisle, where she spent six years producing and hosting a daily show, programming music and managing a team of on-air talent. In 1995, she transitioned to the record label side of the industry, taking on regional promotion roles with MCA and Warner Bros. Records in Nashville, Tennessee. Kuhn was a regional record promoter — working closely with radio stations in the Northeast to secure radio airplay, introduce singers to radio stations, and support artists on tour.
In 2001, Kuhn joined BMG/Broken Bow Records, Nashville, Tennessee, where she currently serves as vice president of promotion. At BMG, she and her team work to secure radio airplay to ensure #1 hits. Kuhn has promoted over fifty #1 singles and helped build the careers of top artists. Her artist Jason Aldean, is the reigning ACM Artist of the Decade and three-time Entertainer of the Year. Also, her artist, Lainey Wilson is the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year and Female vocalist, won the CMA Entertainer of the Year and is a two-time Female Vocalist of the Year.
Kuhn’s work has earned her significant industry recognition, including a nomination for the 2025 VP of Promotion of the Year by Country Aircheck, and five placements on Country Aircheck’s Top 31 Airplay Power Players list. Kuhn is also a published author. Her novel, Love on Tour, was listed on She Knows’ 2025 list of “22 Incredible New Books.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Kuhn is deeply committed to philanthropy. A living kidney donor (Lee donated her kidney to a family member in 2007), she has raised over $100,000 for the University of Maryland’s Living Organ Donor Clinic and the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. She participated in three mission trips to Haiti, currently sponsors a foreign exchange student from Haiti attending Shippensburg University and supports the Totem Pole Playhouse summer stock theatre.
Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Jeremiah N. Greenland, P.G. ’07-’09M
Greenland is the Senior Vice President of Operations at Susquehanna Civil Inc., bringing over 18 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, leadership and project delivery. A two-time graduate of Shippensburg University, Greenland earned his Bachelor of Science (2007) and Master of Science (2009) in Geoenvironmental Studies. Since joining Susquehanna Civil in 2012, he has advanced through multiple roles, from geotechnical technician to geological field manager, and ultimately to his current executive position.
Appointed vice president of operations in January 2020, Greenland with his team, successfully led the firm through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, transforming operations to a remote model within days and later implementing a high-performing hybrid system. Under his leadership, the company expanded its staff, increased revenues and strengthened its culture of collaboration and care.
Registered as a Professional Geologist in Pennsylvania and Delaware, Greenland is known for his strategic thinking and relationship-first leadership style. He emphasizes building strong, supportive teams and tackling challenges with foresight and flexibility. His professional success has earned him accolades such as the Central Penn Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award (2021) and the McKelvey Gold Scholarship for entrepreneurial spirit.
Beyond his career, Greenland is deeply committed to community service. Greenland serves on the Shippensburg University Geography Earth Science Department Advisory Council, as a board chairperson and former chairperson of the Missions Commission, Prince Street United Brethren Church and as a board member for Laurel Mission in Kentucky, building and repairing homes in under-resourced Appalachian communities. Additionally, as a founding member of the Susquehanna Civil Benevolence Fund, Greenland has helped raise over $50,000 for local causes.
Greenland summarizes his career in two sentences. “I oversee a group of professionals who strive to make our world a better place by providing safe, innovative and cost-effective transportation design services. I manage my staff like they are my own family, and I care deeply about every person we employ.” Greenland is an active outdoorsman and can regularly be found hunting, fishing and hiking across the state and country, aiming to visit every National Park.
Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Dr. Adam B. Oldham ’10-’13M
Dr. Adam Oldham is a dedicated high school counselor at the Big Spring School District and a passionate advocate for students and public education. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Human Communication Studies with minors in Spanish and Business, as well as his Master of Education in School Counseling (K-12), at Shippensburg University. He also earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Immaculata University, is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and adjuncts for the Shippensburg University Department of Counselor Education. While attending Ship, Oldham worked as a Resident Assistant in Mowrey Hall and as the Residence Director for Stone Ridge Commons.
Oldham has become a prominent voice in Pennsylvania education policy. He has testified before the Pennsylvania House and Senate Education Committees, as well as the Basic Education Funding Commission, where he has championed comprehensive student services programming and adequate school funding. Since the start of his advocacy work, more than 1,000 additional student services professionals (including more than 500 school counselors) have been hired in schools across Pennsylvania.
Oldham served for seven years on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association (PSCA), and has led its Government Relations work since 2020. He is also the current President of the School Counselors Section of the Pennsylvania State Education Association’s Department of Pupil Services (PSEA DPS). In 2023, he helped found the Capital Area School Counselors Association, and he established the Pennsylvania Coalition of Student Services Associations (PACSSA), representing more than 10,000 school counselors, nurses, psychologists and social workers across the Commonwealth.
Oldham also served on the Cumberland-Perry Drug and Alcohol Commission Advisory Board from 2015-2018 and was appointed by Governor Tom Wolf to the Pennsylvania Advisory Council for Drug and Alcohol Abuse, serving in this role from 2017- 2022. Oldham also served the greater Carlisle community as part of his church as a deacon of benevolence for ten years, working with community agencies such as Community CARES and Project SHARE to support individuals experiencing housing and transition needs.
Oldham recognized as the 2024 Pennsylvania School Counselor of the Year (a six-time nominee for the honor). He also received the 2024 Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators for his contributions to the field of student services. In 2017, he was honored as the State Advisor of the Year by the Pennsylvania chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).
Oldham met his wife, Ashley 08-’13M in his first week at Shippensburg in 2006. They have three children together (ages 10, 7 and 4). They both work at Big Spring High School and are proud Shippensburg University Alumni.
Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Kady E. Taylor ’12
Kady Taylor is a 2012 graduate of Shippensburg University’s College of Education and Human Services, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-6). While at Ship, she was a student-athlete on the track and field team and an alumna of the Wood Honors College. Taylor remains actively engaged with the university as a member of the Wood Honors College Advisory Council, was a founding member of Reach Out (an Honors Program literacy initiative in the Dominican Republic) and continues to serve as a positive ambassador for her alma mater.
Taylor is a School Designer/Professional Services Specialist for EL Education in the Mid-Atlantic Region, supporting educators and school leaders in implementing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction. She brings over a decade of experience in teaching, curriculum development and educational leadership.
Her previous roles include teaching and leadership positions at Kuumba Academy Charter School, Breakthrough Charter Schools/Village Preparatory Woodland Hills, Teach for America and served as an Instructional Strategy Leader for the State of Delaware and Curriculum Director for the Summer Learning Collaborative.
Taylor is pursuing her Doctor of Education in Cognitive Studies in Literacy at Widener University. She holds a Master of Science in Special Education and a Graduate Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Drexel University.
A recognized leader in the field, Taylor’s accolades include nominations for Teach for America’s Social Innovation Award, the Fishman Prize for Superlative Classroom Practice and the Sue Lehmann Transformational Teaching Award. She has presented at both national and regional honors conferences and has been featured in EL Education’s national spotlight for her innovative classroom practices. Taylor is a five-time presenter at the EL Education National Conference.
Cultural Impact Award
Kim Manning Ursetta ’94
Kim Manning Ursetta graduated from Shippensburg University in 1994 with dual bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Education, Equity and Cultural Diversity with an emphasis in early Spanish literacy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as a graduate certificate in Systems Thinking from Cornell University. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
Ursetta is an accomplished bilingual teacher leader with a deep passion for public education and community engagement. With expertise in strategic planning, organizational development and data-driven change, she is widely recognized for her ability to build strong relationships and collaborate toward shared goals. Her leadership and advocacy have influenced education policy at the local, state and national levels.
Over the course of 31 years with Denver Public Schools, Ursetta served as a bilingual teacher leader, teaching preschool through fifth grade, securing numerous grants and helping to found a teacher-led bilingual elementary school focused on math and science for Denver’s predominantly Latino students. She also served as president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association, where she championed quality teaching and learning conditions, negotiated the collective bargaining agreement and co-chaired the district’s Instructional Issues Council to address systemic challenges in education.
Ursetta’s commitment to equity extended beyond the classroom. She collaborated with elected officials, community leaders and advocacy groups to ensure students’ academic, language and cultural needs were met. She led initiatives to provide mutual aid, secure state funding and make changes to education regulations to better support immigrant students and educators. In recognition of her service, Kim received the 2024 Colorado Association for Bilingual Education’s Federico Peña Community Service Award, honoring her significant contributions to bilingual education and community advocacy.
Her broader contributions include serving as a panelist alongside U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at the National Teaching and Learning Conference, participating as an expert panelist for the Southern Poverty Law Center, serving on the board of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and contributing as a member of the NEA Professional Standards & Practice Committee. Kim advises the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at the University of Northern Colorado and co-hosts alumni events for Shippensburg University in Denver.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Bob E. Hamill ’79
Hamill graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1979. He continued his studies and obtained a master’s degree in financial services. Hamill has over thirty years of experience in the financial services industry, including the information technology area. He started his career journey at Philadelphia Life Insurance Company. He spent 10 years working and managing various areas of the insurance business, including underwriting/new business, marketing, actuarial and MIS. He then went on to spend 3 years working for Reliance Life Insurance. There, he managed the development and implementation of a large payout system. Soon after, he went on to become an independent consultant, where he founded a small consulting firm specializing in installing financial systems and general business consulting. Following the consulting project, he joined American International Group as a full-time executive to manage the administrative departments for multiple product lines with over 4 billion in assets.
In 1999, Hamill founded a software development company (Adminserver), growing that business from three to four hundred people in ten years. He personally managed several key clients, including Nationwide, Merrill Lynch, Fidelity and Western United Life. Twenty other large insurance companies purchased and successfully installed the system created by Hamill. Oracle purchased the company in 2008 and still actively markets the system.
Following the sale of Adminserver, Hamill purchased an Allstate business with his son. In January of this year, Hamill officially retired for the second time.
Exceptional Service Award
David ’80 and Laurie (Schultz) ’79-’86M Morgan
Shippensburg University is not only the place where Laurie Schultz Morgan and David Morgan are proud to say they attended college, but a place they still hold dear to their hearts because it is where they met. They both found their passion in the John L. Grove College of Business, with David earning a degree in economics in 1980, while Laurie earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/marketing in 1979 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1986.
David and Laurie were active on campus with service and academic organizations, and David was also an enthusiastic ice hockey club participant. Maintaining ties with the university and classmates has been a priority since their graduation.
Their education and formative experiences at Shippensburg University laid the foundation for their careers in business and school administration and a fulfilling family life. The Morgan’s served as the 2022-2023 National Annual Fund Co-Chairs leading the SU foundation Annual Fund Leadership Team; David volunteered his time with the Finance Advisory Council of the John L. Grove College of Business; and the Morgans established the David and Laurie Schultz Morgan College of Business Scholarship to assist students who have a keen sense of civic responsibility, tenacity to achieve their goals despite adversity and a strong bond with the ideals and vision of Shippensburg University.
