Routinely, Shippensburg University has been named a Military Friendly® School. For the 2026-2027 cycle, Ship earned gold status, the highest standard. According to Military Friendly®, those awarded gold status are “a school that scored within 10% of the 10th ranking school in their category.”
“This past year, Veterans’ Services has created a Veterans Mentorship Program, connecting every new student veteran with a returning student veteran who can aid in their acclimation to Ship. This has been transformative in fostering community between our veteran students,” said Alexandria Karlheim, the director of Academic Entry and Veteran Benefits.
As a gold-status school, Ship offers a wealth of benefits and resources for veteran and military students and continues to find ways to improve accessibility and opportunities.
“In the fall, we collaborated with several SU veteran alumni to offer a VA benefits program and to build out our Veterans’ Day celebration on campus. Both events had an excellent turnout, which shows how much our current student veterans want to connect with alumni veterans. I’m incredibly appreciative of everyone who has been involved, and I’d like to open the opportunity to anyone else who wants to collaborate,” Karlheim explained.
