“Shippensburg University has awarded me with endless opportunities to grow as a person and student. Receiving this award is an honor and recognition that I will always be grateful for,” said Malu Takashashi.
On April 30, 2025, Takahashi, among many other students, was recognized at Ship’s annual Student Leadership Gala and Award ceremony, hosted by President Patterson and First Lady Colleen Patterson. She was honored with the Raider Legacy Award, recognizing her strong commitment to the university’s mission and core values.
“My journey would not have been possible without the vast support system I have received at Shippensburg. Every professor, advisor and staff member has openheartedly supported my academic journey.”
Takahashi described her past four years at Ship as a foundation for her “academic and personal growth.” Also, she notably mentioned the Political Science and International Studies departments and the Global Education Center. She also expressed gratitude toward her family and friends for supporting her along her academic journey.
Through Takahashi’s dedication and her support system, she was able to take on “meaningful opportunities” such as participating in the Washington Model Organization of American States (WMOAS) through the Political Science Department, publishing two academic articles in Write the Ship and countless other opportunities and achievements.
Now, this Spring 2025, Takahaski will be graduating with a dual Bachelor of Arts in political science and international studies, with a minor in anthropology. She has also started her master’s coursework in public administration at Ship.
Malu Takahashi serves as an example of one of the many students honored at the Student Leadership Gala and Award ceremony. Ship is proud to honor her with the Raider Legacy Award and to continue to recognize student achievement across the university.
