Kappa Sigma hosts Fun Run for Health

On September 6, 2025, the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity at Shippensburg University will host the Fun Run for Health at the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail.

The event will begin at 9 a.m., with races starting between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Members of the community are encouraged to participate in the 1-mile, 2-mile, or 5-kilometer run. Registration is $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the race. Children who are 6 and under race for free.

The fundraiser will benefit the Community Free Clinic of Washington County, which provides healthcare to underserved communities. “Recognizing the impact of their work and everything they do for the local community surrounding them, we designed this event to raise both funds and awareness for the clinic so they can continue their mission of providing accessible healthcare to anyone in need,” said Drew Williams, secretary of the Kappa Lambda Chapter.

Williams emphasized Kappa Lambda’s commitment to service and helping others. “As a fraternity, we believe philanthropy is not just a representation of our values but also a responsibility we carry as members of a broader community,” he said.

The event will also include live music, food trucks, complimentary snacks and water, free health screenings, prizes donated by local businesses and a donation booth directly supporting the clinic.

Kappa Sigma has additional philanthropic efforts planned throughout the year, including a 9/11 First Responders Appreciation event, Red Cross blood drive, Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics and visits to local retirement homes.
