Shippensburg University student Madison Scarr, of Lewisburg, was recently selected as the recipient of a Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship for the Philadelphia Beta Gamma Sigma Alumni Chapter.
Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The scholarship is awarded to a student within the chapter region and is based on academic excellence.
“We are so proud of Madison for winning this very competitive scholarship. The motto of Beta Gamma Sigma is ‘the best in business’ and Madison truly exemplifies this by beating out numerous students from business schools across Pennsylvania,” said Dr. Irma Hunt, assistant professor of accounting and MIS and faculty advisor to Ship’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Scarr, a senior accounting major, is president of Ship’s Student Government Association and currently carries a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average. She is also a recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2016 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships. Scarr played in 15 games as a midfielder last season for the 2016 NCAA Division II Champion Field Hockey Team. She is a three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholar of Distinction.
Scarr credits the education and opportunities provided to her at Ship with helping her to achieve this $1,000 scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.
