On September 16, 2019, Shippensburg University President Dr. Laurie A. Carter and Reading Area Community College (RACC) President Dr. Susan Looney signed a comprehensive articulation agreement to support post-secondary educational opportunities for students training for twenty-first century careers. The agreement ensures the seamless transfer of coursework for RACC students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degree at Shippensburg University.
“Our agreement with Shippensburg University provides our growing population of students who have chosen RACC for their associate degree, with an accessible and clear pathway to their baccalaureate degree,” says RACC’s President Dr. Susan D. Looney. “Both schools are equally passionate about student success, making this partnership a good match for our students.”
The agreement also frames new opportunities to serve the workforce needs of the commonwealth. With an increase in manufacturing, logistics and professional and business services jobs, students transferring from RACC will have access to Shippensburg School of Engineering and a premier supply chain management program, as well as over one hundred academic programs.
“This important new collaborative relationship with RACC will promote new academic pathways to students seeking to advance their education. These aligned degree offerings at Shippensburg University will help further drive the success and social mobility of our joint alumni. We are proud and thrilled to welcome RACC graduates into Ship’s student body,” says President Carter.
This new partnership is to engage the Shippensburg and RACC staff and faculty in creating advising and credit transfer processes through intentional program-to-program articulation, reverse transfer, and general education seamless transfer. Students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue toward completion of a baccalaureate degree will benefit from the mutual cooperation between the institutions. Full-time students intentionally advised for a parallel program at Shippensburg University will start as a junior and be able to complete their baccalaureate in four semesters.
