Shippensburg University Television continued its winning streak at the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy® Awards in Pittsburgh.
The student media group celebrated another victory at the ceremony with its second win in the sports-live events category in consecutive years. Not only was Shippensburg University the only institution representing Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, but Shippensburg was the only university nominated in the category thanks to a double nomination.
SUTV took home the hardware for “LIU Post at Shippensburg Football.”
The following students and SUTV alumni were recognized for the organization’s latest collegiate Emmy® award:
- Avery Quinn, Director/Producer
- Michael Smith, Audio/Replay
- Gillian Mencken, Graphics/Halftime Director
- Dishawn Vance, Camera
- Luis Mortimer, Camera
- Breanna Brown, Camera
- Patrick Ramsdale, Camera
- Jake Rohm, Play-by-Play
- Shawn Rapp, Color Commentator
- Zachary Kelly, Sideline Reporter
Jordan Handley was also nominated in the sports-live events category for his production of “West Chester at Shippensburg Men’s Basketball.”
This year’s award is Avery Quinn’s second collegiate Emmy®. He also won an award at the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy® Awards for his production of “Mansfield at Shippensburg Men’s Basketball.” Quinn was elated and made sure to thank the student media organization, his mentor, Mike Gardner, the Communication/Journalism Department, and his parents.
“Ship gives you the opportunity to get hands-on experience right away as a freshman and Mike Gardner recognized my enthusiasm early and pushed me to go further with live events,” Quinn said.
SUTV has now received honors in four straight trips to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy® awards. In 2018, Quinn joined Marshall Keely ‘17 in taking home an award for his arts and entertainment piece, “Brass Camp.” SUTV alumni Marina Barnett ‘17 and Holly Harrar ‘16 were both victorious in the public affairs/community service category.
SUTV News produces a live news, weather and sports program every Thursday night at 7 p.m. that airs on Comcast channel 21 and campus channel 82. SUTV also produces and airs special events and sports contests.
The 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy® Awards ceremony will be held on September 28 at the Wyndham Grand Downtown in Pittsburgh.
