Barbara Wohlgemuth is pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Leadership at Shippensburg University. She will graduate in the spring of 2021.
With degrees from Montclair State University and Centenary College, Wohlgemuth is pursuing her first degree at Ship after some of her colleagues did the same.
“I first came to Shippensburg due to the fact that many from my school district attended the program that I am currently in,” Wohlgemuth said. “They have achieved great professional success and that is the best testament to the program’s efficacy.”
Wohlgemuth’s professional journey has included time as a paralegal and a teacher. She currently teaches fifth grade at Mooreland Elementary School in Carlisle, where she recently served as acting principal. She says her degree program readied her for that leadership role.
“These courses certainly helped to prepare me for such an undertaking. They are comprehensive and abundantly relevant to one’s career as a leader,” Wohlgemuth said.
Flexibility in the program has also been a standout benefit for the educator.
“It was with much trepidation that I entered the program because I am considered a non-traditional student given my age and years in education. However, it was clear from the onset that Ship takes this into account by offering courses in various locations and class sizes that bespeak the importance of creating an atmosphere of enrichment and respect in the educational process,” Wohlgemuth said.
Above all, Wohlegemuth says the most important point to understand about the educational leadership program is that the components are interconnected, providing an overall view of the responsibilities that encompass being a school leader.
“As I traveled through the program, it was an honor to work with so many professionals from various educational backgrounds.”
