Leah Fuoco is a member of Shippensburg University’s class of 2021. The Exeter Township Senior High School graduate took a tour of Ship when she was looking at colleges and fell in love with the campus, the accredited Communication/Journalism program and the opportunities for involvement with student organizations.
Now in the Communication/Journalism, Electronic Media Concentration, B.A. degree program, Fuoco is pleased with the relationships she’s developed at Ship.
“From being so involved on campus, there is rarely a day when I’m walking around where I don’t hear, ‘Hi, Leah,’ from either a friend, classmate, faculty or staff member. There is always at least one person I know around. That’s what makes Ship so special to me,” Fuoco said.
Her involvement on campus includes membership with Kappa Kappa Psi, a spot in the Red Raider Marching Band, writing for The Slate and serving as the general manager for WSYC 88.7 FM.
“We have great student-run campus media groups. As a freshman you can come in and start right away,” Fuoco said. “It’s very cool and great work experience we can put on our resumes.”
In addition to her hands-on experiences, Fuoco feels strongly that her professors are setting her up for a unique kind of success.
“The relationships I have with the Ship faculty are great. They are not only benefitting me and helping me obtain my education, but they are people I know I can turn to once I graduate and need help in the professional world. You really create real connections with all of the professors at Ship. They try and get to know you and help you in any way they can. The whole environment at Ship is just friendly. I have had professors outside of my major who I still have connections with and still keep in contact with. That’s just how Ship is – we’re a family.”
