Dr. Dhiman Chattopadhyay, assistant professor of Communication/Journalism, appeared in Pennlive on August 5. In the opinion piece titled “ICE barriers for new international students will hurt Pennsylvania’s economy,” he discusses the challenges facing international students this fall and the negative impact their absence will present for Pennsylvania.
“The commonwealth is one of the most preferred destinations for international students, ranking sixth for international student recruitment among U.S. states. Last year, PA’s universities had over 50,000 international students – roughly five percent of the 1.1 million international students currently in the United States. They contributed over $2 billion to the state’s economy,” said Chattopadhyay.
