Spring is open to many opportunities to volunteer around campus. One of those is working on the Rail Trail which is what I found myself doing last Friday.

If you’re looking for something a little different, Saturday, April 24 is ShipShape Day! This is an opportunity to go out into the community, meet new people and help clean up the town. Or just make it a day with some friends. You can sign up Sign Up Today!

I talked a friend into coming with me which made the experience more enjoyable, but I also met another student. She was really nice and handy with power tools.

We were tasked to paint some tables for a free event they hold every first Friday of the month.

If you’re looking for a chance to get outside, then volunteering is for you. The next Rail Trail service day is May 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. You can sign up Sign Up Here!

Dr. Allen Dieterich-Ward, a history professor at Ship, and Alix Rouby, a director of internships, both made the experience really fun. They were welcoming and entertaining, regaling us with stories as we worked.

The two hours seemed to fly by and in no time, we were done. It hadn’t even felt like work because we were just having a good time.
