Senior Sean Bernhardy’s post-graduation plans are clear as glass. The finance major is heading to New York to work for Corning Inc., the leader in glass science and production for over 165 years.
“I will be working in Corning, NY to start my career as a finance rotational analyst in the Gorilla Glass and Treasury Department. After the first two years, I will be moving to Kentucky to work in one of their glass plants overseeing and helping run the plant,” explained Bernhardy.
Bernhardy credits Ship’s faculty and his academic experience for helping him to gain the confidence to go after the job, but says networking was the true game changer. He engaged with the Career Center early in his college journey, where he was encouraged to get involved on campus. This advice led him to Men’s Club Lacrosse, the Investment Club, Investment Management Program, Beta Gamma Sigma and the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi.
Through alumni connections made in Alpha Kappa Psi, Bernhardy learned of an internship opportunity with Corning. Out of 30 finance interns working in the summer of 2021, Bernhardy was one of only six to land a full-time job with the company post-graduation.
“I’m very excited and nervous at the same time. I am ready to open the next chapter of my life,” he said.
