Shelly Zacharjasz is pursuing her first degree from Shippensburg University as a graduate student in the Counseling, K-12 School Counseling, M.Ed. and Certification program.
After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education from West Chester University in 2014, Zacharjasz has gained professional experience as a special education teacher at Overbrook Educational Center in the School District of Philadelphia and as an extended school year teacher for Easterseals of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
“After extensive research about changing the course of my career in the world of education, I was drawn to the counseling and college student personnel program at Ship because of its impressive reputation and its accreditation with CACREP. Face-to-face learning was a priority for me, so Ship really felt like the best fit,” Zacharjasz said.
Since joining the Ship family, Zacharjasz has taken on graduate assistantships with the Connection Alcohol and Other Drugs Program and, most recently, the Counseling and College Student Personnel Department. Through these experiences, hands-on opportunities and in her enlightening relationships with faculty, she has embraced the university’s community feel.
“This program is a transformative experience. It is intense. If you are looking for a program that cultivates personal and professional growth, you are in the right place,” Zacharjasz said.
Zacharjasz is also an executive board member for the Upsilon chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators.
