Dr. Steven Burg, History joined a panel at the American Historical Association’s Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 6, 2023, entitled, “Out of Campus: A History of LGBTQ+ Activism at Pennsylvania Colleges and Universities.” At the session, held at the William Way LGBT Community Center, Burg shared the work of the Shippensburg University LGBTQ+ History Project. The project is an ongoing collaboration between the History Department, the Shippensburg University Archives and Special Collections, and the Pride Center that has collected oral histories, papers, and photographs documenting the experiences of Shippensburg LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff from the 1970s to the present.  Burg also discussed how he and graduate student (now alumni) Ethan Smith M.A.’21 collaborated with the PA LGBT History Network to develop the script for a panel on Shippensburg University in the traveling museum exhibit, “Out on Campus: A History of LGBTQ+ Activism at Pennsylvania Colleges and Universities.” An article about the exhibit was published by the American Historical Association in its newsletter Perspectives.
