Dr. Mark Sachleben, professor of political science, is known for his research and expertise in international relations, but did you know he hosts a radio show every Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on 88.7 WSYC-FM Shippensburg?  Shark Jazz and Blues is an hour-long program of jazz and blues, with a little bit of reggae.

“I have been doing the show for about 4-5 years and I try to give some background and history to the music I play, incorporating different themes. I tend to have a wide, inclusive definition of jazz so that I can incorporate as much music as possible.”

Sachleben posts to his blog, Shark Jazz and Blues before each show, including his playlist for the show and notes about the artists and songs that he is playing.

On his most recent show on November 7, Dr. Sachleben showcased jazz musicians with birthdays that week, including Joni Mitchell who turned 80 years old. Sachelben included a link to Mitchell singing her famous song “Both Sides Now” at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022.

During the blues segment of his show on November 7, Dr. Sachelben played Natalie Merchant’s “Motherland,” for election day.

Tune into Shark Jazz and Blues on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.
