Dear Ship Community,

Today marks my last official day as a Raider. While I am looking forward to my next chapter, I am reflecting on my time here with you. It was this time four years ago that I came to make Ship my new home. The energy and enthusiasm I felt for setting a new course for this university was inspiring and so we got to work. We could have never imagined how these years would unfold, but I am so grateful to this community for the way in which you welcomed me, the way you were willing to dig in and do the hard work that needed to be done, and the way in which you did not falter during tough times, locally and nationally. We have literally travelled together through experiences that will define a generation.

As I say farewell to Shippensburg, I thank you for your hard work and belief in Ship. Students, cherish your time here and make the most of the quality education you are receiving. It is an important piece of your future. Faculty and staff, your work on behalf of our students is something to be proud of. You really do alter the trajectory of people’s lives, forever. Alumni, thank you for continuing to elevate the reputation of Ship through your professional and philanthropic work in your communities and in giving back to Shippensburg. And, to the many partners, associates and neighbors, I send my best wishes for a future of growth and collaboration with the university.

Please now welcome Dr. and Mrs. Patterson to campus, and I will be looking on with pride as you all move our mighty Ship into the next chapter of history.

With gratitude,
Laurie A. Carter
