The Shippensburg University Marching Band is traveling to the Czech Republic for a performance tour of the Czech Republic and Germany from November 19th until November 26th.

During the tour, the marching band will perform in two parades and celebrations in the cities of Pilsen and Prague for the opening of their Christmas Markets. During their trip, they will go on guided tours to explore the architecture and history of Prague and Pilsen.

Dr. Trever Famulare, chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at Shippensburg University, as well as the director of the Shippensburg University Marching Band, began offering international performance opportunities in 2014 with the marching band’s first tour to Ireland, where they performed in the Dublin New Year’s Eve Parade. In 2018 the band traveled to Italy and performed in St. Peters Square and Vatican City for the Pope’s New Year’s Day Parade and received a blessing from the Pope.

“I want to be able to provide an international performance opportunity for each student in the marching band during their college career, touring every 4 years,” said Famulare, “This opportunity will not only continue their education in music performance but also experience the culture of other countries while representing Shippensburg University and the United States.”

There will be 142 participants attending the tour, which include the performers, alumni, directors, staff, alumni, parents, family, and friends. 93 of the participants are performing members, including 14 alumni.
