Marva “Chit” Bradley made history as the first African American woman to win Homecoming Queen at Shippensburg University. The Afro-American Organization sponsored Bradley during her Sophomore year in 1973 in the homecoming court contest. She competed against 16 other candidates. At the time, Bradley was committed to multiple other organizations and clubs as well. She took part on the Women’s Residence Council and was an SU Cheerleader. Another African American woman, Donna Wise, was announced Homecoming Queen the following year. The Afro-American Organization sponsored Wise as well.
