Shippensburg University senior Aven Bittinger is the newest member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors. Appointed by Governor Tom Wolf, the board establishes broad educational, fiscal and personnel policies and oversees the efficient management of the State System.

Bittinger, of Parker, is a political science major with a minor in history. As an active member of the Shippensburg University community, he served as an orientation leader, resident assistant and Disciplinary Board member. In his senior year, he will serve as president of Ship’s Student Government Association.

“Being able to serve not only the state of Pennsylvania but my university in such an intentional way is truly the highlight of my collegiate experience, second only to my time as a resident assistant,” Bittinger said.

Bittinger’s term begins upon upcoming Pennsylvania State Senate confirmation and will conclude upon graduation.
